I’ve been working out at Steiner for just over 5 years and recently gave into the long suppressed desire to try figure skating. World class instructors have been working with me from day one but, interestingly, one instructor, Sara Smith, who is not an ice skater, ended up helping me immensely. The back bending, posture wrecking forces of life here on earth had a more profound effect on me than I realized and my skating instructors have worked tirelessly to get me to use a posture that is absolutely required if I’m ever to master even the most fundamental elements of this sport.
I started working with Sara with her emphasis on “strong and BALANCED” body work and quickly learned that I’d developed a lot of body postures and habits that work against my best efforts at skating and fit life in general. Sara’s upbeat and energetic program was custom designed to get me skating better. She even came to the rink and spent a session with me and my ice skating instructor to better understand the physics of the sport and see how she might improve our workouts to focus more precisely on exercises that would best facilitate my needs. It seems clear to me that almost anyone in any endeavor could benefit from Sara’s expert instruction and guidance. She’s been a real delight to work with!
I have been working with Sara for 2 years now-since I had back surgery. After surgery I was limited in what I could do and badly wanted to get back to the outdoor activities I loved. Sara demonstrated an intuitive and creative way of identifying the type of stretches and exercises I needed. She has really helped me improve my flexibility and core strength.
I come away from each session feeling much better and refreshed. I have learned a great deal from Sara about body mechanics and how I can help myself. I am back today hiking, skiing, rafting, biking and horseback riding. Sara is a major reason why. She is a true professional and I find her an absolute joy to work with and I know others will too.
I’ve been around the block with movement and strength training — running, hiking, yoga, pilates, gyrotonic — but I wasn’t actually applying my skills to take my running to the next level. Working with Sara gave me the framework, motivation and, really, permission, to DO MORE without a lot of fuss. Sara gave some simple tips for higher intensity workouts (treadmill, gym and/or home) that cover the bases in a short time, all while keeping a focus on good mechanics and mobility. Good stuff!
I am so glad I found Strong Balanced Solutions while I was researching personal trainers.
Sara created countless custom workouts and stretches, taught me proper core engagement, and was even able to help me correct my long-time posture and movement problem areas. She was patient, attentive and quick to modify movements that weren’t working for me. I’m now confident in my ability to work out effectively and meaningfully at the gym or at home thanks to the wealth of knowledge I gained during my time working with Sara. My relationship with my body has truly changed for the better.
Thank you Sara!!
Sara focused on assisting me to meet my objectives, developing the core strength that underlies flexibility and posture. Based on her lessons, videos and practice I feel better qualified to continue working to gain strength and flexibility.
